LM warmup (10 reps), 24.1 miles in 3:15:29, 8:06/mi, HR 151, & stretching.

Ran up into the hills, equipped with 100L hydration pack & a set of GUs.  8 miles up, a couple flat, a couple downhill, then reversed.  Some sections somewhat un-runnable in both directions, so this was a leg thrasher workout.  All in all, felt wiped but not horrible by the end, probably because I stayed fairly well hydrated.  Three GUs helped too.  Not a run I want to do very often though...

Nice job on the extra long run. Always nice to get this one done and out of the way. Means taper time and the race can't be far away.

OMG that sounds tough! Very smart going with an out and back (ie no choice to cut the run short when it gets hard at the end!) considering how you were feeling about this a few days ago. Well done!

To increase the level of sympathy I'm getting for doing this run, I'll now reveal that the elevation gain from start to the 8 mile mark was 1650'. Which is why I didn't run yesterday, given that my joints were popping in whole new ways. Taper can't come soon enough....

YIKES! Awe is trumping sympathy at the moment.

I'm still trying to figure out how the ultra-marathoners run those 50K-100M races over terrain that makes this run look flat without expiring on the course. Or at least needing to spend a couple of weeks not moving to recover.
